Jan Barszczewski (1797-1851) was a prominent figure in early Belarusian literature, best known for his groundbreaking work Master Zawalnia or Belarus in Fantastical Tales, which holds a key place in the development of Belarusian literary tradition. Born in what is now Belarus, Barszczewski wrote in both Belarusian and Polish, yet his work is deeply rooted in Belarusian folklore, mythology, and culture.
